Thinking about recording, or already on the calendar? Either way, start here. It takes ten or fifteen minutes. Your answers tell me what you're making, so I can come back with a plan and a quote. They also cover what I need to have ready, and the questions worth answering before any recording session. A lot of the work gets done before anyone hits record.
Who's playing, when you're hoping to record, and which package fits. Prices are starting rates, and the final quote depends on scope. If you're not sure, pick "Not sure yet" and we'll work it out.
List them in priority order. If the day runs long, we finish the top of the list first. Tempo and key don't have to be exact. Write "not sure" and I'll find them, but if you can't name a song's tempo, that's worth figuring out before you come in.
Describing sound in words is hard, and references help more than anything else. Tell me what's in your head and I'll work out how to get it down.
2–3 songs by anyone that sound like the record you're picturing, and what specifically you love about each one. "The drums on X" or "how close the vocal feels on Y" is more useful than "the vibe".
Live together captures the feel and goes fast. Layering gives more control but takes more time. Most songs suit one or the other, and it's fine to mix the two across a session.
The more I know about your setup, the more of it is already patched and waiting when you walk in.
What the recording is for changes how we make it. A demo to get booked, a debut single and a record for your grandkids all need different things.
Kyle plays cajón, djembe, darbuka and a few other things. He's happy to put a rhythm under any song, and no is a fine answer too.
Answer honestly, because this list is mostly for you. Leave anything unchecked that isn't done yet. It'll show up on your session plan as a to-do, and it tells me where to leave extra time.
Phone demos are perfect. I listen to everything before you come in.
Kyle will be in touch within a couple of days to talk dates, scope and a quote. Here's your session plan so far. Save it or print it.
